Round 6 Pick 212: Eric Gentry, Linebacker, USC

Eric Gentry is not a prototypical linebacker. His 6’7″ frame is tall and lanky, lacking the stout size usually needed to take on run blockers and handle the physicality of downhill backs. Spending most of his time as an inside linebacker at USC, look for the Patriots to move him to the outside. His long wingspan and 4.5 40-yard dash speed give him great versatility in zone coverage as well as blitzing off the edge.
Gentry will need to add some size to be effective in the NFL, but he has the athleticism to immediately step into special teams and add depth as a pass rusher or in 3rd and long situations. He is a work in progress but possesses the natural talent and size to be an excellent pick up late in the draft.
