Round 5, Pick 161: Drew Allar, Quarterback, Penn State

With the Steelers’ QB room being what it is, the team needs to add another signal-caller so that Will Howard can have competition for the starting job after the Aaron Rodgers era in Pittsburgh. Drew Allar would be a good prospect for that role. He has all the physical traits that teams want in an NFL quarterback, with a rocket arm and good mobility, but his struggles with decision-making resulted in him tumbling in the draft. His season-ending injury early in the 2025 season and the underwhelming performance of Penn State prior to that injury didn’t help his case either.
It’s not all doom and gloom for Allar’s potential as an NFL quarterback, however. He has all the physical tools to succeed in the league, and the mistakes that he makes in processing information and being decisive are correctable mistakes. Being under the tutelage of Mike McCarthy might be enough for Allar to realize his full potential, so he and the Steelers might be a perfect fit.
