Round 1, Pick 9: Spencer Fano, Tackle, Utah

Kansas City allowed 47 sacks in 2025 (22nd in the NFL). They chose to part ways with starting tackle Juwaan Taylor, who was excellent in pass protection, but racked up too many penalties. With Mahomes likely out for the start of the season, the team won’t want to risk another, potentially more serious injury. With the ninth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, they take Spencer Fano out of Utah.
Fano was the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2025 and was the Outland Trophy winner. He is expected to be the first tackle off the board in April, showing great size (6’6 and 315 pounds) and athleticism (4.91 forty, 32″ vertical). He explodes out of his stance and initiates violent contact with defenders after the snap. Like Will Campbell last year, Fano sports short arms, but it shouldn’t affect him as a pro. He would be the starting right tackle on opening day for the Chiefs.
