Round 4, Pick 109: Kaytron Allen, Running Back, Penn State

The Chiefs were 25th in the NFL last year in rushing yards (1,812), and they lost running backs Isiah Pacheco, Damon Pearce, and Kareem Hunt. There was a lot of talk that they might look to Jeremiyah Love in the draft, but then they signed Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III. They still need somebody to pair him with, and Kaytron Allen from Penn State has been a tandem back his whole college career.
Allen had a PFF grade of 89.5 last year, thanks to 1,303 yards and 15 touchdowns. He did this while sharing carries with Nicholas Singleton. The pair was called thunder and lightning, with Allen providing the thunder. He’s 5’11 and 220 pounds of bruising and punishing runs. His 4.55 forty is a little slow, but again, he’s going to bring the pain to the defense, so Walker can run around it.
Allen lacks a receiving tree or the hands to be a decent receiver out of the backfield. He also lacks in pass protection, but he’s not going to be used for any of those things. He’s going to set the stage for those things, which Walker and Mahomes will benefit from.
