Round 4, Pick 132: Tim Keenan, Defensive Line, Alabama

After securing the edge, the Saints need to look to the interior of the defensive line. Davon Godchaux is effective, but he’s also 31 years old. Nathan Shepard leaves a lot to be desired at defensive tackle, so in round four, New Orleans will look to Tuscaloosa and take Alabama lineman Tim Keenan. He is stout, at 6’1 and 327 pounds, and does a great job clogging the middle and taking up double teams.
Keenan started his career at Alabama weighing 380 pounds, but showed great commitment in getting down to 327. His shorter wingspan will be a detriment when rushing the passer, and he isn’t the most athletic big guy in the middle of any defense. He plays hard, however, and can be an asset for any defensive coordinator who uses him correctly. In round four, it’s a safe gamble.
