Round 1, Pick 8: Carnell Tate, Wide Receiver, Ohio State

The team’s best receiver, Chris Olave, missed half the season in 2024 with a concussion. He came back last season in full force, being targeted 156 times and pulling in 100 receptions for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns. He will play 2026 under the team’s fifth-year option ($15.5 million), but there are questions about whether they will try to work out a long-term extension. In this draft, they replace one Buckeye with another.
Carnell Tate hauled in more than 50 receptions in each of the last two seasons for Ohio State. He is considered, arguably, the best receiver in this year’s draft class. He’s 6’2 and 192 pounds. He is a little on the slower side, running a 4.53 forty, but he has great hands and route-running skills. He can get up and high point the ball as well as any of the more athletic receivers.
Tate has an exceptionally high IQ and can find the holes in every zone a team can throw at him. He is tough as nails when it comes to catching balls over the middle and in traffic. He needs another 20 pounds on his frame to keep from getting pushed around by corners. Overall, he is the number one option in week one.
