Round 5, Pick 170: J’Mari Taylor, Virginia

Denver Broncos mock draft, 2026 nfl draft, J'Mari Taylor, Virginia

In the fifth round, Payton adds a sneaky pick at running back. Last season, JK Dobbins led Broncos running backs with more than 770 yards rushing, but missed some time due to injury. RJ Harvey did a solid job stepping in as an RB2, adding his own 540 yards. One area the backs did not excel in was the passing game. Historically, Payton has had excellent receiving backs from Reggie Bush to Darren Sproles to Alvin Kamara.

J’Mari Taylor brings shiftiness and long speed to the backfield. He had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at North Carolina Central and Virginia and scored 32 total touchdowns. Taylor also adds good hands, providing Payton with a Swiss army knife-like running back, allowing for more creativity in the screen game and a check-down for Nix. In an already crowded backfield, Taylor should be able to carve out a spot for himself both as a feature third-down back and a special teamer, as well as depth with Dobbins’ history of injuries.
