Round 7, Pick 239: TJ Hall, Cornerback, Iowa

Tyrique Stevenson’s contract is up after the season, so it doesn’t hurt to bring in some depth that can start on special teams and work their way into passing packages. In round seven, the Bears grab Iowa cornerback TJ Hall. He has decent length, at 6’1 and 189 pounds. He has slightly below average speed (4.59), and may project more as a free safety than a corner at the professional level.
Hall amassed 47 total tackles in his senior season, defending 10 passes and intercepting one pass. His run defense is on another level, thanks to his incredible anticipation and tackling. He shows the ability to attack thrown balls at the highest point, making catches difficult, even for taller receivers. Naturally, due to his lack of burst, Hall is better suited in zone than in man-to-man. He also hasn’t been an elite ball hawk, with just two career interceptions.
