Round 7, Pick 232: Isaac Smith, Safety, Mississippi State

Los Angeles has three picks in the seventh round, and they use the 232nd pick for depth at safety. Kam Kurl and Kamren Kinchens are the starting safeties, so Isaac Smith will compete with Nate Valcarel and Jaylen McCollough for backup duties. Like a lion hunting a gazelle, Smith can quickly assess the offensive play as it happens. He’s outstanding at keeping everything in front of him and takes pride in being the hardest-hitting defender on the field.
Early in his career at Mississippi State, Smith played safety, linebacker, and edge rusher. His unique versatility allows defensive coordinators creativity when deploying him. He’s most effective in the box, acting as an additional linebacker to help neutralize the star tight ends in Trey McBride and George Kittle within the NFC West.
During Smith’s three-year college career, he totaled 206 tackles (127 during the 2024 season). This included a 20-tackle game against the Tennessee Volunteers in 2024. Coaching will be imperative for his pass coverage development, but in the meantime, he will prove to be a heat-seeking missile on a desperate special teams.
