A’ja Wilson’s Dominance Demands Recognition
The reigning MVP has gotten off to a fast start, and that makes her the early favorite to win the award again. Her sustained level of play is greatness personified, and she’s truly setting a golden standard. Wilson’s teammate, Chelsea Gray described how her dominance sets the tone for the rest of the team.
“Honestly, a blessing getting to play with the best player in the world every day. I mean, she’s the standard and on this team everybody wants to be the standard.”
Voter fatigue could play a factor in the results to an extent, but Wilson shouldn’t be denied another MVP if she sustains her elite level of play. New narratives could emerge in the media which may give some people doubts, but the easiest way for Wilson to overcome it is by leaving no debate. If she continues to put up MVP-caliber stats, and is able to keep the Aces near or at the top of the standings, voters won’t have much of a choice.
Despite having three other future Hall of Fame players on the roster, Wilson still serves as the backbone of her team. When everyone else struggles, she’s productive enough to carry them on her back and can adjust to any defensive scheme thrown at her. The Aces are 8-7 all-time without her, and no other player on any other team is more important to their success than Wilson.
