Ever since the WNBA started in 1995, there have come plenty of legends who paved the way for future generations. Players like Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie and Sheryl Swoopes laid and solidified the foundation of the league so that players such as A’ja Wilson could carry on the rich tradition these ladies began. That legacy lives on through Wilson, who is in position to win her fifth MVP.
There will be other players who will challenge her for that top spot, but she always proves to be a step ahead of the rest of the competition. The fact that she dominates on both ends makes her the most complete player in the league. That says a lot about a player who is surrounded by talented teammates, but can still carry the team with unmatched consistency.
It’s scary for opponents knowing that Wilson can drop 30 points on any given night, and shut down the competitor’s top scoring threat all in the same game. There are only a handful of players who are capable of being an anchor on defense and the main focal point on offense. As the ultimate competitor, Wilson can be expected to go all in capturing her fifth MVP. She has been the model of consistency while the rest of the league is still trying to catch up.
