Miami Heat sign G Tim Hardaway Jr 1yr/6.5m

With much of the focus regarding the Heat rightfully going towards the trade for superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, the signing of Tim Hardaway will likely go unnoticed by most fans. Criticism of the team’s current roster is that they lack 3-point shooting, and while that may be true, Hardaway will help with that.

Last year with the Nuggets, Hardaway shot a career-high 40.7% from three and finished third in Sixth Man of the Year voting. He was a vital part of the Nuggets team, which suffered a number of injuries down the stretch and has shown consistency throughout his career. He has been available most of his career too, playing in at least 70 games in six of the last seven years. The Heat will need this; for as good as Giannis is, he has struggled with injuries recently.

Hardaway will be a perfect fit alongside Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo as someone who can help space the floor and allow them to have cleaner lanes to the basket. His 1-year contract for only $6.5 million is great value for a team that already has two massive contracts taking up most of the space. Overall, his impact will be huge for the Heat and he brings a catch-and-shoot skill set that was missing from the team.
