Round 3, Pick 71: Ja’Kobi Lane, Wide Receiver, USC

Washington Commanders mock, 2026 nfl draft, ja'kobi lane, usc

Receiver is the biggest need for Washington, and because they got a steal on Love in round one, they had to wait until pick 71 to address it. Terry McLaurin is all-world, but Treylon Burks and Luke McCaffrey leave much to be desired. Van Jefferson was brought in on a one-year deal, but his 29 catches for 350 yards last year aren’t going to make a huge difference for the Commanders.

In round three, the team gets USC receiver, Ja’Kobi Lane. Size is what he brings to the table more than anything else. He’s 6’4 and 200 pounds, and he used that size last season to haul in 49 receptions for 745 yards and four touchdowns. It’s a third of the touchdowns he had the year before, but still enough to showcase that he can use his body. His 4.47 forty is all he needs to get the job done.

Lane is a stud in the red zone, and he makes quick adjustments during his route and in the air to make difficult catches. Once he catches the ball, he’s difficult to bring down, but he will need another 10-15 pounds to take repeated hits in the NFL. He will also need to work on his run blocking, unless he is Randy Moss in the passing game.

Next: Round 5, Pick 147
