Round 1, Pick 7: Jeremiyah Love, Running Back, Notre Dame

It’s unlikely Jeremiyah Love lasts to pick seven. He’s likely going fourth to the Tennessee Titans, and if he makes it out of the top five, someone will trade up to six to get him. In this simulation, though, he drops to seven, and the Commanders rightfully grab him. Running back is not their biggest need, but a player this good is not someone that teams will pass on, regardless of their rushing attack.
Washington’s top rusher, Jacory Croskey-Merritt (805 yards), returns, and the team signed a pair of running backs to replace Chris Rodriguez (Jacksonville Jaguars). Rachaad White and Jerome Ford were brought in on one-year deals, so they won’t be around in 2027. Love could avoid being a workhorse too early in his career and be brought along slowly into the offense.
Love is big (6’1 and 210 pounds) and fast (4.36 forty). He’s clearly the best back in the draft, and it isn’t close. In his sophomore season, he ran for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns, and surpassed those numbers in 2025 (1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns). He has great hands in the passing game and is as close to a “can’t miss” prospect as any player in the draft.
