Round 4, Pick 103, Sam Hecht, IOL, Kansas State

The Jets bolster their offensive line depth chart after the free agency departure of Alijah Vera-Tucker. While Kansas State center Sam Hecht doesn’t have the tackle versatility of AVT, his skillset projects to both center and guard. Hecht’s athleticism and footwork make him a good fit for New York’s wide-zone rushing attack.
At 303 pounds and with 31 ⅝-inch arms, Hecht doesn’t possess the size and length most teams look for in an o-lineman. He’ll lose to length and speed at times, but his technique is so refined that he’s rarely overpowered head-up. The Jets’ offensive line is one of the few strengths on the roster, so they don’t need him to play right away. For now, Hecht is a depth piece who’s an outstanding fit for the scheme and culture the Jets are trying to build. If he ends up winning a starting job, that’s a bonus.
Up next, the Jets add another weapon to the offense.
