Team USA 1996: Third Base

Ken Caminiti
In 1996, Ken Caminiti would win the National League’s Most Valuable Player award. This team would be selected before that, but through the 1995 season, the Padres third baseman showed not only power at the plate (26 home runs in 1995) but elite defense in the field. Gifted with a cannon that makes Manny Machado look like a noodle arm, Caminiti won his first gold glove award in 1995.
Caminiti sported a .950 fielding percentage for his career at this point, and while he would later go on to be named in the steroid scandal, it does not take away from how electric he was as a defender. The throw he made from his butt, in foul territory, to first base in 1996 is still one of the greatest highlights in MLB history.
