Being brash and outspoken is one thing, but being stupid about it is another. Shiloh Sanders’ Mary Kay Cabot’s comments were stupid, wrong, and completely out of line. It’s understandable to defend someone close, like a best friend or a brother, but there are ways to go about it. Hoping to make people laugh by resorting to sexism or racism is pandering to the wrong crowd. Doing it to defend someone who didn’t ask for help is actually hurting them more than anything someone else could have said about them.
What’s this all about? Deion Sanders’ second-oldest son jumped to the defense of his younger brother when there was no reason to do it. Spewing acidic venom towards someone who did not initiate such an attack. Discussing the Cleveland Browns quarterback situation, Cabot, a Browns reporter, said, “I think they should declare Watson the QB1 ASAP, and let the 1st team start to cook. There’s no time to waste.”
By all accounts, there was nothing derogatory in Cabot’s comment about Shedeur Sanders. She was simply making the observation that the team needs to get a jump on the season, and in her opinion, Deshaun Watson makes the most sense as the team’s starting quarterback. Because he is competing with Sanders for the spot, Shiloh took this as a jab and responded, “Go make a sandwich.”
There’s No Place For Sexism In The World
The older Sanders went too far with his comment. It was clearly a sexist and misogynistic remark aimed at a female reporter who has likely endured far more discrimination in her career pursuit than he has in his. He made it clear where he felt a woman’s place was, and felt Cabot needed to be directed to that part of the house. Discrimination is all equal. There is no one form that’s worse than another, so how would Sanders feel if someone chose to racistly put him in his place, the way he did Cabot? Would he feel it’s fair game, or would he play the victim card?
Sexism=racism=homophobia=antisemitism. Anyone who practices one form of discrimination is giving approval to the world to use every form. Aside from his inability to play football at a professional level, Sanders’ lack of professionalism with a mic in his face may have played a role in why he is unsigned. He is an ignorant child, and the only thing he’s ever achieved athletically is watching his family on the field.
Shiloh Sanders Mary Kay Cabot Comments Are Counterproductive To His Cause
Assuming Sanders felt he was acting nobly, protecting his brother from an attack that never happened, he would be twice as foolish as already described. His brother is in an uphill battle to start at quarterback, and the only thing that could hurt him more than unsolicited comments from Shiloh would be a torn ACL. Now, aside from trying to read defenses and completing passes in tight windows, Shedeur has to answer questions about comments made by a moron.
Shiloh protected his brother by making his brother’s life even more difficult than it already was. Great job! The older of the two has tried to backpedal a bit, praising women in football, but knocking Cabot for expressing her opinion rather than facts. He remarked, “How you gonna say, ‘Oh, this is what I think is gonna happen’? We don’t care what you think is gonna happen.”
This sounds like an attack on the freedom of speech, or the freedom of the press, or both. Is Sanders an advocate for burning the Bill of Rights? It could be that he is a typical 21st-century child, who defends the rights of the people in a way that only millennials can. “I beleive in freedom of speech. I think you should be allowed to say whatever “I” want.”
Cabot is allowed to have an opinion on all things football, and all things non-football, for that matter. Sanders is, too. Only one of them sounds stupid for sharing their opinion, though, and it’s not the educated, knowledgeable, and informed reporter with 30 years’ worth of experience.
