Round 2, Pick 64: Omar Cooper Jr, Wide Receiver, Indiana

While receiver was not a top priority for Seattle, especially after re-signing Rashid Shaheed, getting Cooper at pick 64 was too good to pass up. He has been exceptional throughout his career at Indiana, averaging 21.2 yards per reception as a sophomore, and then catching 69 balls for 937 yards (13.6) this past season. He was clearly the go-to target for quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
At the Combine, Cooper ran a 4.42 forty and posted a 37″ vertical. He checks all the boxes except one, and that is his size. If he were 6’2 and 200 instead of 6’0 and 190, he’d be one of the first receivers off the board. Sometimes teams have to overlook a player’s dimensions and focus on his productivity. He displays excellent hands, but will need to clean up his route running to truly be effective as a pro.
