Round 6, Pick 193: Pat Coogan, Center, Indiana

The trenches are where games are won. Under new coach Harbaugh, the Giants will need to keep building the offensive line. At the bottom of the sixth round, Coogan is an excellent addition, bringing experience and intelligence. Seen as having limited upside by many analysts, the end of the draft is where steals can happen.
Coogan has great size at 6’5″ and 311 pounds, paired with reported strong leadership skills. The Giants center really struggled last year in pass protection, opening the door for Coogan to prove the critics wrong and compete for a starting position. Coogan’s biggest concern is technique related to his base. He leans too far, making him susceptible to bull rushes and shedding by defensive linemen. With the right coaching, he has a chance to earn a starting spot, bolstering a much-needed position up front.
