Flau’Jae Johnson WNBA Draft And The Teams Who Will Regret Passing On Her

Flau'Jae Johnson WNBA Draft Order

The teams that passed up on Johnson were the Mystics, Sky, and the expansion Tempo and Fire. The Mystics desperately needed a perimeter defender, posting one of the worst defensive ratings in the WNBA last season, and Johnson could have helped solve that problem. The Sky could have used her leadership and passion since they badly need a fresh start with new players. Either one of the newer teams could have used the services of the former NCAA champion.

The Valkyries also could have used a player of Johnson’s caliber, but the trade provided them with salary cap relief. The acquisition saved the team $40,000 in rookie-scale salary, allowing them to go after cheaper options. Johnson’s opportunities would have been limited in Golden State due to established veterans already on the roster, so the move made sense for the team, but they will still regret passing on the two-time NCAA All-American.
