As for Springer, it is all but certain that his days in Toronto are finished, and he has once again become a hot commodity, reaching double digits in home runs and heating up at the right time for possible suitors to come calling. Bannon has Springer heading to the scorching hot Boston Red Sox, which is an interesting move indeed.
Springer to a Division Rival?
The Red Sox, formerly starved for offense, similar to the Jays, have started banging out hits and scoring runs to accompany a pitching staff that has dialed it in. Springer’s postseason pedigree might be the main reason for the Red Sox’ desire to acquire him. Ultimately, Springer might have one, and at best two seasons remaining in his illustrious career.
He could be an extremely valuable piece for any team looking for a proven clubhouse leader to take them to the next level in October. That’s just what Springer does. The Jays might have to settle for just one prospect, though, in unloading a large portion of Springer’s hefty $25 million AAV salary.
Left-handed pitcher Jojo Ingrassia, a recently converted starter, is one prospect who appears to have a bright future, and whose name has been floated around as a possible trade piece for Springer.
A young arm with MLB potential, while unloading a large chunk on salary, is likely the best option available in unloading Springer.
It just kinda sucks that he might go to a bitter division rival.
