The 2026 New York Mets have been an absolute trainwreck this season. Things have gotten so bad that the manager, Carlos Mendoza, was relieved of his duties. With how disappointing the season has been, many fans have been asking, Where the heck is the owner? Steve Cohen finally came out of hiding to talk about the team. Did he decide to give a press conference? Of course not. Cohen decided to go on the New York Post Sports “The Show” podcast, and he opened up. The most stunning revelation he revealed was the relationship issues between Juan Soto & Francisco Lindor.
Fransico Lindor & Juan Soto Have Heat With Each Other
During his appearance on the podcast, Cohen revealed that both Lindor and Soto had issues with each other.
“I don’t see them going anywhere, and frankly I think that’s a story that was last year’s story, and that actually am told and believe strongly that these guys are getting along much better,”
This immediately brings two thoughts to the minds of fans. First, that Cohen just turned last year’s
story into a bigger story for this year. Way to make a toxic season even more toxic. What benefit does revealing that issue even do for a struggling team? It’s also unclear exactly what the issue was or how it was resolved. Second, and more importantly, this is yet another example of Lindor failing to get along with a teammate.
There have been rumors that Lindor had issues with Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo. He even had a public argument with Jeff McNeil. Lindor’s ego is at the heart of each of these incidents, and he needs to get it under control to have a better relationship with his teammates.
Both Allegedly Made Up, Time Will Tell If That’s True

Cohen claims that the two superstars have made up, but it’s hard to believe him. Especially since they’ve barely shared time in the clubhouse due to Lindor’s injury. The Mets organization better hope that the beef is squashed, because neither player is going anywhere any time soon. The owner himself even said in his interview that,
“And so I just don’t see that as an issue anymore. I’m lucky enough to have two high-quality players like that, and with the elimination of whatever issues there were last year, I’m thrilled that they’re on the team.”
Soto’s gigantic contract makes it impossible for the Mets to move off of him unless he decides to opt out in 2029. If a salary cap comes into play with the league’s next CBA, the team may be forced to trade Soto to avoid cap hell. Fans would hate to see him leave, but it could be a blessing in disguise.
Lindor isn’t leaving because that would result in Cohen losing a political connection to get his casino approved. Many forget that Lindor’s wife works for Zorhan Mamdami, the mayor of New York City. It’s obvious that Cohen cares more about his casino project than the baseball club, and parting ways with Lindor would jeopardize his plans.
This Revelation Continues To Prove That Steve Cohen Is The Main Problem With The Mets
The season has been a colossal failure, and the situation he just created is further proof that Cohen is the problem with this franchise. Why did he think it was a good idea to air dirty laundry and reveal that his top two players did not get along? Does Cohen realize he just made that clubhouse even more toxic by doing that? He’s already ruined the team by being a cheapskate. He didn’t fire David Stearns because of the financial impact, and he lowballed Alonso and Edwin Diaz in contract negotiations, which led to them leaving.
If Mets fans were smart, they would request that Cohen get the heck out of this town and sell the team. They should even chant it during games like the fans did by yelling Alonso’s name. Then again, this owner kicks out fans for speaking up and criticizes them about lowering parking costs on Twitter. He needs to put down the phone, stop acting broke, fire Sterns today, and actually learn how to build a baseball team instead of solidifying his casinos. If not, then he should do the Mets fans a favor and sell the team.
