The NBA never takes a day off, and the latest groundbreaking trade has sent shockwaves through the league. The Boston Celtics traded Jaylen Brown to their division, and Eastern Conference rival, the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers’ future looked bleak, but now they have an opportunity to contend for the Larry O’Brien. The trade pushed the Sixers from +5000 to +2200 to win the NBA Championship.

This past season, the 76ers overcame adversity to complete the reverse sweep against Boston in the first round, winning in seven games. The excitement of the victory was short-lived because in the next round, the New York Knicks cleaned their clocks. There were some highlight moments, but the series didn’t provide much hope for
the upcoming season. Now the tables have turned, and the 76ers actually have a capable roster to contend for a championship.

During the Celtics’ title run in 2024, Brown won the Eastern Conference and Finals MVP. His ability to defend the Mavericks franchise star, Luka Doncic, in the Finals played a role in Luka being traded to the Lakers. The uber-talented wing captured stardom due to his play in the series.

How Does Brown Fit The Sixers Roster?

The fit with the 76ers will be interesting because they already have two superstars in Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. They also have VJ Edgecombe, their first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, who made the All-Rookie First Team last season. All of these players have tremendous talent, but they lack the championship experience Brown brings from Boston. He can take his game to the next level when the situation seems dire, scoring a key basket or playing lockdown defense.

Sixers head coach Nick Nurse gained experience coaching wing players such as Precious Achiuwa,
Scottie Barnes, and OG Anunoby from his time with the Raptors. Brown has more talent than those players and the demeanor to be the alpha on a team that lacks a killer instinct. Embiid hasn’t been able to play that part, in large part, due to his injury history.

When the 2022-23 MVP misses games this season, the team shouldn’t suffer a big loss, because Brown can pick up the extra weight. He can play the role that the team expected Paul George to play, but didn’t, because he missed almost as much time as Embiid. Brown offers consistency in his game that his team can trust in the toughest times throughout the season.

Jaylen Brown Come On Down To The Philadelphia 76ers

Fans in Philadelphia have been wishing for a competitive team that could make a serious run since the 2000-2001 season. There hasn’t been this type of hype before training camp in a long time. The trade for Brown reenergized the fan base and the bettors in Las Vegas. He has the opportunity to show Boston they made a mistake trading him. From his live Twitch stream Thursday night, it’s clear that he’s ready for the challenge. The extra motivation can bleed over into his new teammates and hopefully push the 76ers to the next level, which at minimum is the Eastern Conference Finals.
