LeBron James once again sits on his throne, as the NBA awaits his free agency decision, and the opportunity to don new threads or wear a recycled jersey. He can easily be dropped onto any roster and make that team better, but if he wants to add another championship ring, which destination should he choose? If he wants the glory of another title on his resume, then he should opt for the Philadelphia 76ers.
LeBron James: The Drought Savior
The 76ers have not won a championship since the 1982-1983 season, and they haven’t reached the Eastern Conference Finals since 2000-2001. Sixers fans have watched their Eastern Conference foes enjoy success and feel that it’s time they have that same feeling. Arguably the greatest basketball player ever can sign with Philly, and take them to the promised land, or at least an Eastern Conference Finals appearance. His resume shows a history of ending title droughts in Miami, Cleveland, and Los Angeles.
The Sixers made a big move last week by landing former Celtics Finals MVP Jaylen Brown in a stunning trade. This gives Philadelphia an elite squad that should appeal to James. Tyrese Maxey is a Klutch Sports client and an All-NBA guard. 2025 lottery pick VJ Edgecombe finished third in the Rookie of the Year voting. Joel Embiid is still a dominant force when healthy and won a gold medal with James on Team USA in 2024. Add The King to the starting lineup, and the 76ers can make serious noise in the East.
The Impact Of A King

The Sixers ranked near the bottom of the NBA in assists per game last season. Maxey is listed as a point guard, but is better when he plays off-ball, and isn’t forced to put his guys in a position to score. The team doesn’t have a true point guard on the roster, so James could be used as a point forward, where he would be able to lead the league in assists as he did in 2019-2020. He has an incredibly high basketball IQ and can direct teammates into the best position to score, taking them to another level.
James doesn’t need to be the main guy at this point in his career and can rely on the other stars in Philly. Brown’s versatility will allow the former Laker to play freely, instead of wasting energy on both ends of the floor, while Maxey led the league in fast-break points last season, making the outlet pass from James dangerous in transition. Embiid is a league MVP when healthy, and Edgecombe can score in a variety of ways.
President of HBSE and former Warriors architect, Bob Myers, made his case on why James should join the Sixers, stating that if James wants to win, then he will sign with Philly because this team can win now. The Warriors squads that battled James during his Cavaliers days were a product of Myers, and a motivational statement on winning could be the nudge that the future Hall of Famer needs to play in the City of Brotherly Love.
One Final Kingdom To Call Home
Winning in Philadelphia would elevate James’s legacy to another level. He’s won a championship with every team he’s played on, and doing it again as a member of the 76ers would be a fantastic way to end his career. Philadelphia provides the best opportunity to win and opens the door for him to be cherished by a passionate fanbase. He should take his talents to Philly for the 2026-27 season.
