The Chargers can use some depth at safety, where they currently start Derwin James and RJ MIckens. That’s where USC’s Kamari Ramsey comes in. Keeping a Southern California kid close to home is never a bad move. Another player who would have been selected higher if not for an injury, Ramsey is a guy who knows how to play the position. He is better against the run than the pass, and could see quite a few snaps in the box.

In pass coverage, Ramsey does not have the breakaway speed to keep up with outside burners, but he will give fits to opposing tight ends. He will allow the team to play man-to-man instead of zone against teams that like to throw the ball over the middle. He will be an asset on special teams as well as defense, especially as a rookie.

Despite always seeming to be in the right position, Ramsey managed just three interceptions for the Trojans. He tends to be a little overly aggressive in pursuit, and if he wants to be more than a gunner on the punt team, he will need to take better angles in the tackling game.
