The most fascinating part of the media is what’s often called lost media, as it focuses on any form of content that was available and did happen, but no known copies exist. This is in every part of pop culture, entertainment, sports, etc. One of the most popular examples is in the professional wrestling industry. The biggest company is the WWE, which has a ton of content that many fans & analysts hope gets found and released. From the bunch, there are five WWE Lost Media that stand out the most.
1. Kurt Angle Vs Owen Hart (WWF Dark Match 1999)

Ever since WWE released the legendary Tom Magee vs Bret Hart match in 1986, this match is the new Holy Grail of lost WWE Media. Owen Hart and Kurt Angle are two of the best technical wrestlers in the business. Neither spent too much time on the roster, as Angle signed in 1999, and Owen Hart tragically passed away at the Over the Edge 1999 PPV. Many thought that this match never happened, but it turns out that it did. Two weeks before Owen’s passing, both he and Angle had a dark match on Raw, and there is a photo of Angle giving Owen a slam as proof.
There is footage of the match, as WWE usually records dark matches. Unfortunately, the promotion has not been able to find it or release it to their WWE Vault channel. It’s the new holy grail match that hopefully will be released to the public one day, just to see two legends wrestle each other.
2. The Jake Roberts Snakepit Segment With Hulk Hogan In 1986

While Owen Hart vs Kurt Angle is the Holy Grail for WWE match lost media, the Jake Roberts & Hulk Hogan snake pit segment is the Holy Grail WWE segment of lost media. In 1986, WWE had plans for Roberts to feud with Hogan for the top title. It was supposed to start in Providence, Rhode Island, where Roberts cut a promo mocking Hulk Hogan’s “pythons” and eventually hit him with a DDT.
The problem is the fans cheered Roberts and chanted DDT. WWE did not want Hogan to be booed, and with the positive reaction Roberts got, WWE abandoned the plan and hid the footage worldwide.
This is not the first time WWE abandoned plans out of fear Hogan would be booed. There were stories of Dino Bravo having a potential match against Hogan in 1986 in Montreal, but WWE abandoned it. Especially with how popular Bravo was in Canada, McMahon feared the fans would revolt against Hogan. This Snake Pit Segment is the biggest example of WWE abandoning a potential feud/segment because of fear that Hogan would look terrible. This footage needs to be released if they can find it in their vault, as it’s a segment that is legendary.
3. Screwed “The Bret Hart Story

Bret Hart is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. He is beloved in WWE, but there was a time when Hart and WWE were not on the best of terms. It was so rocky that the organization was going to do a hit piece documentary titled Screwed The Bret Hart Story. It was going to be done the same way as “The Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior” documentary was made, where WWE buried The Ultimate Warrior, painting him in a poor light. The Hart documentary had recollections of wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, and Jerry Lawler, saying some negative stuff about Hart.
Luckily, WWE had a change of heart and abandoned the negative documentary, then made a fresh one in 2005. The lost footage is so intriguing and would be a weird view of top superstars destroying Hart. It’s unlikely this ever gets released with how beloved The Hitman is, but many wonder what comments were said on the footage that was made.
4. The Alternate Finishes Of WrestleMania 36

WWE was in a tough spot when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, as it was a week away from WrestleMania 36. This resulted in WWE having to film every show at its Performance Center. It was horrifying TV, but WWE had to work with it. One thing that they had the ability to do was hide match results by filming alternative finishes to the matches, and it mostly worked. WWE has footage of these matches, and it would be intriguing to see how the matches would have looked if they had gone the opposite direction.
5. The Lost Radio WWF Episodes

That’s right, WWE used to have its old radio show called Radio WWF. It focuses on the professional wrestling business, specifically involving WWF PPV coverage and news on the industry. This radio show did not work, barely lasted a year, but it’s still a fascinating idea.
There has been a rare segment of commentary during the 1994 Royal Rumble. The footage available is only a partial segment, but there is a year’s worth of content from the Radio show, and there were talks of a revival in the Attitude Era. That content would be great to reflect on, and it would be great for the company to release it
If WWE Vault’s Channel Is Reading, Please Find & Release It

There is plenty of other Lost Media footage in professional wrestling, but from the bunch in WWE, those are the ones that stand out. WWE has done a phenomenal job with their vault channel when it comes to rare footage and behind-the-scenes content. If anyone on that channel is reading, please find the footage above and release it, as this would get the channel so many views and the fans awesome content on never-before-seen footage.
