The Future Ahead for the New York Yankees’ Third Basemen

Lombard Jr. is a potential piece of the future Yankees core, but if he does not alter positions, then what? The rest of the Yankees’ minor league clubs have minimal major league talent for the third base position. McMahon’s contract is set to continue until the end of the 2027 campaign, so he probably is not going anywhere. Rosario and Cabrera are not all-star caliber players despite serving quality games here and there.
Cashman must make a move, a true swing for the fences. He could attempt to sign Bo Bichette next offseason, yet that may not be the best move long-term, as he seems to have a lingering knee injury, and third base is not his natural position. Cashman could also attempt to trade for Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm, but that may not be the best move either because of Bohm’s underwhelming offensive output.
It would be crazy, but if Cashman could develop a package to acquire fearsome slugger Junior Caminero from their division rival, the Tampa Bay Rays, it would reset all of the aforementioned issues about the Yankees’ struggles at third base. Any other possible resolution could have Yankees fans quoting George Costanza, “My whole life is a sham!”
