With most ofthe attention and coverage on 18-year-old Blades Brown during the 2026
American Express Championship at La Quinta Country Club in California, it was Scottie
Scheffler, who ended up making history. A final round 66 and a final score of-27 gave
Scheffler won his 20th PGA Tour win. He became only the third player in tour history to win
his 20th event before the age of 30. The other two were Tiger Woods and Jack
Nicklaus.
14 ofthose wins (three ofwhich are majors) came since the start ofthe 2024 season.
Age aside, it took him only 151 starts to reach the milestone (which gives a player
lifetime exemption on the Tour). Nicklaus achieved the feat in 127, while Woods did it in
a mind-bending 95.
Scheffler is also fourth all-time in PGA Tour money won ($76.1 million). Tiger Woods
leads the list at just over $120 million, followed by Rory McIlroy ($104 million), Phil
Mickelson ($96 million). Scheffler is $1 million ahead of Dustin Johnson, who is still on
the LIV Tour and not expected to catch up any time soon.
Scottie Scheffler And Majors
The only major Scheffler hasn’t won is the US Open, with his best finish coming in 2022
at The Country Club (Brookline, MA) when he finished second, with a score of-5. He
has never missed the cut at the US Open as a professional. This year, the tournament
will be held at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, NY. The last time Scheffler
played there was as an amateur during the 2018 US Open, when he missed the cut,
shooting 78 and 73.
If Scheffler can pull it off this year, he will complete the career Grand Slam and once
again join Nicklaus and Woods as the only golfers to complete the Grand Slam before
the age of30 (Jack was 26 and Tiger was 24). Technically, Scheffler will turn 30 on the
final day ofthe tournament, but let’s be generous.
Scheffler won’t be joining the dynamic duo in career wins (Tiger has 82, and Jack has
73) any time soon, but he’s definitely trending as one ofthe all-time greats. For now, it’s
a great start to 2026 for the number one player in the world.
