It’s not often that the final pick in the draft becomes an NFL team’s prized possession. Even with hard work and dedication, many late-round selections disappear into obscurity. Thankfully, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has begun to rewrite that narrative. He’s overcome obstacles and the stigma of being the last guy picked to become one of the league’s elite quarterbacks. Entering his fifth season, with the addition of wide receiver Mike Evans, Purdy will show coaches and any other doubters that he should not have been left off the Top 10 Quarterbacks list.

NFL Overlooking Brock Purdy

Being left off the list continues a trend of Purdy being overlooked and underappreciated. Despite only playing in nine regular-season games in 2025, Purdy still showcased a polished game with the second-highest quarterback rating for the season. He’s established himself as a dual-threat quarterback who can break the pocket and create downfield, as evidenced by his 147 yards rushing and three touchdowns last season.

The former last pick in the draft has set a new standard for the 49ers. As the heartbeat of the offense, Purdy has managed to rack up 33 wins to only 16 losses. This mark combines both his regular-season and playoff success.  When healthy and behind center, Purdy commands the offense to win. He was third in the league in completion percentage last season (69.4) and posted a 2:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

There’s more to playing quarterback than what happens on the field, though. Purdy has been able to minimize outside noise and lead his team to a Super Bowl appearance. In the postseason, he has two fourth-quarter comebacks and four fourth-quarter game-winning drives. Now, with a true number one outside receiver in Evans, the job has become that much easier for him.

Super Bowl In The Near Future

Brock Purdy super bowl

Having Purdy under center essentially guarantees making the playoffs. He’s reached the postseason a total of three times in five years and was one correct read away from being a Super Bowl champion in 2023. When compared to his peers, Purdy is often overlooked, not because of skill, but because of popularity. The 49ers’ offense is boring, run-heavy, and the quarterback’s play is technical, not flashy.

What should really matter when ranking a quarterback is his ability to win in any predicament. That’s what Purdy does best,  and it will be shown yet again this upcoming season.

San Fransico knows Purdy’s value. They made him one of the NFL’s highest-paid quarterbacks, with a five-year contract worth $265 million. That belief in him is not shared by others around the league, though, which is why he was left off their top 10 list.

Purdy’s omission, despite his recent postseason success, is a red flag. One that shows the sport is being critiqued by those who may not see the big picture. When behind center, wins and losses are what can define a player, and Purdy already has the lead in that department.
