Miami Dolphins: What Is The Plan For The Rebuild?

Miami has seemingly secured its new quarterback with the recent signing of Malik Willis. Beyond that, the team has several significant needs heading into the Draft. The supporting cast on offense is severely lacking talent, and the Dolphins will need to rectify that to justify the money spent on making Willis the franchise’s future.
There are significant holes on defense as well, and even with two first-round picks, the Dolphins will not be able to rebuild this roster in one Draft. With the quarterback position already set, Miami is in the perfect position to let the board come to them and take the best players available. Their first pick is number 11, and with the uncertainty regarding the top 10, the Dolphins will likely have a premier player at a position of need available.
With their second first-round pick at 30, the plan for the Dolphins should be the same. It is, however, worth noting that Miami may struggle to find an edge rusher if they aren’t willing to reach a little, which is concerning given it’s their biggest need. They have four third-round picks, should they want to trade up, but they may be better served keeping all of those picks to improve a poor roster.
If the Dolphins are convinced an edge rusher has elite potential, they have the capital to facilitate a trade. Otherwise, they should let the board play out and take the best player with each pick. This may not lead to a competitive season next year for Miami, but it will allow them to set a strong foundation for the rebuild.
