Western Conference Continued

Utah Mammoth Vs. Vegas Golden Knights
The Utah Mammoth, in the franchise’s first postseason berth, face off against the Vegas Golden Knights, who won the Stanley Cup in 2023. The Mammoth’s head coach, André Tourigny, has the team ready defensively, which is centered around goalie Karel Vejmelka, who has posted the second-most wins in the NHL with 38. The Golden Knights recently fired their head coach, Bruce Cassidy, who had led them to winning the Stanley Cup just a few seasons ago, and replaced him with head coaching journeyman John Tortorella.
The new head coach has the Golden Knights playing fiercely, and their goalie issues have improved by starting Carter Hart. Vegas’ first line is one of, if not the best in the league, with Mitch Marner, Jack Eichel, and captain Mark Stone. The Mammoth have two top-notch centers: Nick Schmaltz and Logan Cooley. Utah is one of the most exciting teams to watch in this year’s playoffs because of how they play on the ice.
Prediction: Utah Mammoth Vs. Vegas Golden Knights
This will be a sneakily entertaining series to watch throughout. Both teams match up well, and it will be interesting to see who makes the key plays consistently. The valiant efforts of Vejmelka and the Mammoth are not enough, as they are poached from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by Eichel and the Golden Knights in a tight knit six games.
Anaheim Ducks Vs. Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers are on a hunt to change the narrative that they cannot win the big one after losing in back-to-back seasons in the Stanley Cup Finals. They begin this trip facing off against the Anaheim Ducks in the first round. Led by Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, this edition of the Oilers will be intriguing to watch.
This is Anaheim’s first trip to the playoffs since 2018, and it shows with their roster construction. They are led by many NHL veterans: Chris Kreider, Alex Killorn, Mikael Granlund, John Carlson, Radko Gudas, and Jacob Trouba. Each will have to really pitch in and help if the Ducks have a chance against the Oilers in this opening round. The Ducks also have two extremely young skaters: Cutter Gauthier and Leo Carlsson, both of whom posted 69 and 67 points, respectively. The offensive firepower for both teams will be a factor in this series, and who can stay hot will decide the outcome.
Prediction: Anaheim Ducks Vs. Edmonton Oilers
There have been numerous occasions where McDavid has had to put Edmonton on his back and drag them across the finish line, but this round will be an exception. The Oilers and McDavid’s revenge tour begins with a thrashing of the Ducks in six games to advance to the Western Conference Semi-Finals.
