The New York Giants’ offense evolves with the addition of Najee Harris. New head coach John Harbaugh has made an impression on the team’s roster through a series of offseason moves, but this transaction carries a heavier impact on the organization than it seems. Harris will energize and strengthen his teammates through his experience, talent, and work ethic.

The Running Back Room

There are no secrets about Cam Skattebo serving as New York’s number-one rusher. He gained more than 400 yards and five touchdowns in five games last season. He is joined in the running back room by Tyrone Tracy Jr (740 yards) and Devin Singletary (437 yards). Both Skattebo and Tracy’s seasons were cut short due to injury, so the Giants will need to better distribute the workload in 2026.

Although Harris has an injury history, the 2021 draft pick has never been part of a loaded running back roster. He will potentially see fewer snaps than ever before in his career. New York will look to balance the usage of every running back in hopes of keeping each one healthy, and Harris features prominently in those plans.

Proven Talent

The ability of the former Los Angeles Charger was on full display when he ran for more than 1,000 yards in each of his first four seasons. Harris saw only three games before tearing an Achilles last season. Entering season number six, he will easily top the 61 rushing yards he had last year (ideally getting to 1,000 again).

The 28-year-old was thrown in the deep end as a rookie, leading the league in scrimmage touches with 381. New York won’t demand that type of responsibility out of Harris next season, but that’s the ability that drives an NFL organization to success. At 6’1” and 240 pounds, the Giants’ newest running back will be a massive offensive strength.

Not only will Harris bolster the running back room, but he will encourage offensive equilibrium. New York’s revamped receiving core, starring Malik Nabers, is lacking consistency in star performance. Incorporating a running back rotation to operate sufficiently with four elite rushers will take heavy pressure off of throwing the football.

Traditionally, the Giants’ franchise is known for its iconic rushers, with Tiki Barber, Ottis Anderson, Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw, and plenty more. New York is going back to basics by relying on a consistent run offense in the 2026 season. They will also utilize other offseason signings to protect the run game, like Patrick Ricard and Isaiah Likely.

The attention is on the Giants’ offense with the new players acquired, and it will need a dynamic style of play with the pass and run. Harbaugh has familiar faces to work with, and reliable NFL expertise. He knows all about the back’s impact on football games when game-planning against Harris as the Baltimore Ravens head coach. The G-Men’s new leader will strategize Harris’s presence as an offensive asset.
