The city of Philadelphia has been busy in 2026 with the Semiquincentennial, World Cup, and the MLB All-Star Game. It had been 30 years since the Midsummer Classic was in Philly, and the city didn’t disappoint. Exhibition events and games can lack the juice in most sports, but fans in Philadelphia reenergized the MLB All-Star experience.

Philadelphia Reenergized The MLB All-Star Game

Philadelphia has been a topic of conversation across the globe, known for its hardcore fans who aren’t afraid to vocalize their opinions. It was going to be interesting to see how Philly would handle the surplus of action when Major League Baseball came to town. Most of the time, the narrative about their fans is negative, but after Tuesday, people should think positively first.

It’s tradition to boo a Sports Commissioner such as MLB’s Rob Manfred, so he wasn’t alone at the draft, as the rivals of the Phillies and the Houston Astros all received boos when they drafted new prospects. Manfred stated, “Philadelphia has been an unbelievable host city. The Draft, we had bigger attendance, more enthusiasm than any (at) point in the history of the event.”

The Phillies sent Cristopher Sanchez, Jhoan Duran, Jesus Luzardo, Brandon Marsh, Kyle Schwarber, and Bryce Harper to the All-Star Game. There was going to be some bias in the stands, especially with Schwarber and Harper participating in the Home Run Derby.

The Phillies fans in the crowd brought the boo birds to any potential threat to their power hitters as they looked to win in front of their hometown crowd. The people in the stands weren’t lenient with the kids in the outfield either. Imagine being a teenager in the outfield shagging fly balls and being booed because the catch wasn’t made.

It was an amazing experience because this was unlike any other derby experience across its 41-year history. Schwarber fell to Jordan Walker in the finals, but seeing the love Walker and his parents received afterwards was awesome. After the Derby win, Walker said he never heard people cheer so loud for Harper & Schwarber. Then, during the introductions, the next day, Walker received a fair share of boo’s.

When the All-Star game began on Tuesday, the red carpet at Independence Hall was fun and creative. Then the intros were unique as the starting lineup signed their names in the batting order with a play on signing the Declaration of Independence. Celebrating the country was a major theme, and the city hit a home run.

Philadelphia A Tough Act To Follow

Not all the people in attendance were Philadelphia fans, but most were, and the energy was unlike any other past experiences. There was no talk about Atlanta or Texas being as invigorated as the people from Philly. It goes to show that fans can have an impact if they are fully into the theme. It will be interesting to see how Phillies fans overtake the Field of Dreams game vs the Twins on August 13th, as Philly fans travel well.

Chicago has some big footsteps to follow next year after the incredible performances in Philadelphia. Chi-town is in the batter’s circle for the All-Star festivities in 2027. It’s no surprise that both the Home Run Derby and the exhibition game were sold out.
