Flush With Draft Picks
The NBA collective bargaining agreement makes it hard to retain the talent needed to compete for championships year after year. Most championship teams lose depth when role players leave for more money elsewhere or when they lack draft or trade assets. The Thunder are in a rare position to avoid that issue for a while, as the best team with the most draft capital.
OKC will have multiple first-round picks in the 2026 and 2027 NBA draft, giving them the chance to add more young talent to support their big three. General manager Sam Presti has a track record of drafting well and/or using picks to acquire other players. OKC will have the flexibility to improve the roster while competing for titles over the next few years without issue.
Winning Culture
Oklahoma City has built an identity that keeps it competitive against any team. Head coach Mark Daigneault has turned the Thunder into a championship-level team through intense defense, relentless pace, and reliance on their roster’s depth. They receive contributions from role players who can win a game without the help of their star teammates. The team plays unselfishly on offense and shares a clear understanding of what it takes to win. They are consistent in their effort every single night, whether it is a preseason, regular season, or playoff game. That kind of consistency is the mark of a sustainable contender and what makes the Thunder favorites to win another title.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have all the ingredients needed to remain the top team in the NBA. A young core of elite talent signed long-term. A head coach able to develop and get the most out of every player on the roster. Championship experience and a clear identity that keep them focused and poised in every situation. A front office that accumulates the assets needed to improve and maintain its elite depth. OKC won’t just win another title this year–they will define this decade of the NBA as its next dynasty.
