Tyson Is the “Perfect Fit”

Chris Olave And Jordyn Tyson

According to the Professional Fanatics Podcast, Tyson was the perfect fit for the Saints. They predicted that Moore will get the most out of him from a schematic standpoint.

“Jordyn Tyson is by far the most athletically, gifted receiver in this draft. He is going to shift between outside and inside. Once he slides into the slot, that’s where you’re going to see him shine because Moore gets the most out of his slot receivers and it’s not even close. We’ve seen it with CeeDee Lamb when his production was through the roof. Seventy-five percent of his routes were ran from the slot that year and he was just electric”.

If Tyson inherits a role similar to the one Lamb had during Moore’s tenure in Dallas as offensive coordinator, both he and Olave will shine.

How the Rest of the Competition Stacks Up

There’s no reason to believe the Saints won’t have the best receiving duo in the division. The defending NFC South champion Carolina Panthers hit a homerun when they drafted Tetairoa McMillan, but the rest of the team’s receivers remain a question mark. The Atlanta Falcons have Drake London as their top option, but they are lacking quality depth at the position.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers still have Baker Mayfield under center, and he has two productive wideouts in Emeka Egbuka and Tez Johnson. They also have veteran receiver Chris Godwin on the roster, but there is cause for concern, as he missed the majority of the season due to injury. The team also expects third-year wideout Jalen McMillan to help offset the loss of franchise cornerstone Mike Evans.

With the other 3 teams in the division dealing with a bit of uncertainty when it comes to their pass catchers, the Saints find themselves in an enviable position. With Tyson on the field opposite Olave, opposing defenders will be forced to pick their poison. They are likely to see quite a bit of zone coverage, since teams won’t be able to double-team both of them.

Defenses may also blitz frequently in an attempt to prevent big plays for huge chunks of yards. During a post-draft interview, Tyson was asked how he felt knowing that he would be playing alongside Olave. “It’s going to be amazing. We’re going to take pressure off each other, make our jobs easier and I feel like when defenders guard us one-on-one, it’s going to get ugly.”
