Should Boston Trade For Giannis?

Bucks’ superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is the center of trade buzz this offseason, and the Celtics seem like a potential suitor, but they shouldn’t be interested. Acquiring Giannis would benefit Boston in solving its big man issue and also upgrade the roster overall, but the risks aren’t worth the reward. If a move is made, Celtics star Jaylen Brown is likely gone, along with additional pieces, which would be an expensive cost for Boston.
The Celtics should have no interest in trading Brown, no matter the return, unless he wants out. He is a core piece of this team alongside Jayson Tatum, and these two can’t be split up. They’ve shown they can win together in the past with a championship in 2024 and definitely still can in the future. Trading a Finals MVP would make absolutely no sense.
This deal would break a part of this team’s identity, changing everything. Giannis’s injury history is also scary and something to avoid. At 31 years old, this past season, he missed over half of the regular season games. Trading a healthy star for an unhealthy one isn’t the right move. The Celtics are already a contending team and don’t need to take drastic measures. Fixing what they already have in place is the way to go.
